PIFVA and the Temple University Film and Media Arts Department join together to warmly invite the Bryn Mawr film community to an evening of five documentary films made by Temple MFA graduates:

Kalin is an award-winning New York-based filmmaker (Swoon, Savage Grace), video and installation artist (Third Known Nest, From Silence), writer and activist, 2011 Guggenheim Fellow, and professor of directing at Columbia University School of the Arts. His work is included in the collections of the Whitney, the Centre Georges Pompidou, and MoMA. Kalin is currently collaborating with musician Thomas Bartlett (Doveman) on an evening of live music and film and developing several feature projects.

The documentary MissRepresentation premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. It is a film that explores how the media’s misrepresentation of women has led to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence. Currently, Bryn Mawr is the only place in the Philadelphia area screening this film. Patty Chang (born 1972, San Leandro, CA) is well-known for her performative works which deal with themes of gender, sexuality, language and empathy. Working predominantly in video Chang initially uses the medium to document her performances, often utilizing the camera’s potential to misrepresent.
