Film and Media Studies at Swarthmore College presents: Tom Kalin Monday, November 21, 7pm in Lang Performing Arts Center Cinema
Posted November 15th, 2011 at 3:36 pm.Kalin is an award-winning New York-based filmmaker (Swoon, Savage Grace), video and installation artist (Third Known Nest, From Silence), writer and activist, 2011 Guggenheim Fellow, and professor of directing at Columbia University School of the Arts. His work is included in the collections of the Whitney, the Centre Georges Pompidou, and MoMA. Kalin is currently collaborating with musician Thomas Bartlett (Doveman) on an evening of live music and film and developing several feature projects.
He will present new work and speak about the legacy of New Queer Cinema and his work with the seminal AIDS activist art collective Gran Fury. Swoon, Kalin’s debut feature about the notorious Leopold-Loeb murder case, which helped inaugurate New Queer Cinema, will screen Mon., November 14 at 7pm in LPAC Cinema.
